Empowering Community Through Music and Connection

Community Through Sound is a Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to creating inclusive and supportive spaces where people with lived experience of mental health challenges can engage with music and music-making. We believe in the transformative power of music to support wellbeing, foster community connection, and reduce social isolation.

Our mission is to make music more accessible for those facing mental health difficulties—whether through participation, listening, or simply being in a welcoming, creative environment. We organise a range of music-based activities, including:

  • Open mic events that offer a safe, inclusive space for self-expression, creativity, and social connection

  • Participatory music appreciation sessions in both community settings and psychiatric hospitals

  • Live music performances, discussions, and reflection sessions that explore the role of music in mental health and wellbeing

We understand that not everyone can access community services, which is why we bring our sessions directly into psychiatric hospitals and other mental health settings—ensuring that music and its many benefits reach those who need it most.

Every event is thoughtfully designed to be warm and welcoming, often including tea, coffee, and cake to create a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. Whether someone is performing, listening, or simply being present, we aim to make each session a meaningful step toward connection and recovery.

As we grow, we’re committed to responding to the needs of the community, expanding our work in partnership with individuals and organisations who share our vision of wellbeing through music.

Having the opportunity to play and listen to others in a live music venue is amazing. It's a safe space and I feel comfortable and not judged on my mental health by those in the room - T.M. (participant)
